[News] Kim Jeong Hoon cast in new sitcom, 'Unusual Men and Women'

MBC is making a new sitcom, titled Unusual Men and Women, and it’s notable because it’ll be a remake of Korea’s very first youth sitcom, Three Men, Three Women, which explored love and friendship in a boardinghouse where a sundry group of people lived. 

It was a new, fun format for Korean television at the time, and a great vehicle for young stars, which included comedian Shin Dong-yup (SNL Korea) and actors Song Seung-heon (Saimdang, Light’s Diary) and Woo Hee-jin (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo), who acted in the 157-episode series that aired from 1996 to 1999

Now, it’s been confirmed that Kim Jeong Hoon (Start Again), Park Han-byul (I Have a Lover), Park Jin-joo (1% of Anything), and T-ara’s Hyo-min (The Thousandth Man) will appear in MBC’s remake series.

In the remake, Kim Jeong Hoon will play the handsome son of a wealthy family. On paper, he’s perfect marriage material, but he’s actually never been in a romantic relationship. Park Han-byul will take on the role of a golf instructor at a gym whose Miss Korea-level beauty and easy-going attitude cause peoples’ heads to turn. Jealousy Incarnate’s scene-stealer Park Jin-joo, who also impressed audiences through her variety show appearances on King of Masked Singer and I Live Alone, will play a bright and bubbly character whose presence is said to light up the show. T-ara’s Hyo-min is also set to appear, but character details have not been released at this time.

In order to make a lasting impression, the cast is reportedly customizing their roles to fit their actual personalities. It’s been awhile since I’ve tuned in to a sitcom, but sometimes when dramas are just too much and you want something light and breezy, sitcoms can do just the trick.

Unusual Men and Women will premiere sometime during the first half of 2017 and production will begin next month.

[News] Hallyu celebrity math book to be published abroad

“Kim Jeong-hoon’s Math Essay” written by singer-turned-actor Kim Jeong-hoon is slated to be published in six places in Asia -- China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia -- in their respective native languages.

Major Chinese publisher Posts & Telecom Press has confirmed its initiative to publish 5,000 copies of the book nationwide, while a major Taiwanese publisher will be publishing 1,200 copies, the agency said in a press release.

Although rights to books, such as photo albums, have often been sold abroad, this is the first time the rights to a math essay is being exported, according to industry officials.

The book was published locally in January. A former student of dentistry at the prestigious Seoul National University before he dropped out to pursue a career in entertainment, Kim wrote the book to help people who are intimidated by numbers or have given up on math to learn the subject more easily, the agency said.

Singer turned actor Kim Jeong Hoon will make his Hollywood debut in the upcoming film “Pacific Rim 2.”

According to a source on Thursday, the actor “was confirmed to be cast as one of the characters for the film. He may join the rest of the cast on set as soon as next week. There have been talks of filming some parts of the movie in Korea as well, but Kim will be flying overseas to shoot his parts.”

The source said Kim met the director of the movie by fate, which led to his casting. He previously starred in films such as the crime thriller “Stray Dogs” in 2014, and recently made an appearance on the MBC drama “Start Again” (2016).

The actor originally debuted as a member of the R&B duo UN in 2000, which disbanded five years later due to low record sales.

Kim will be starring alongside American actor John Boyega of “Star Wars” fame, who was confirmed to be playing the son of actor Idris Elba’s character from the first Pacific Rim.

Former UN member and actor Kim Jeong Hoon will be the next Korean actor to make his debut in Hollywood!

According to officials, he was recently cast in the upcoming sequel and Hollywood film Pacific Rim 2 set to be released in 2018. He will begin shooting for the film as early as next month.

Kim Jeong Hoon is mostly known to international fans through his role in the 2006 hit-drama Goong.

He is not the first Korean actor to make his first step into a Hollywood film. Others include Lee Byung Hun (G.I. Joe Retaliation & Rise of Cobra, Red 2, Terminator Genisys, Magnificent Seven), Park Jung Hoon (The Truth About Charlie), Rain (Speed Racer, Ninja Assassin), Bae Doona (Cloud Atlas), Choi Min Sik (Lucy), and among others.

Pacific Rim 2 will be produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Steven S. DeKnight, and will star John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny, Jing Tiang, Levi Meaden, and Adria Arjona.
